It’s been long time since I posted a blog. It’s time to start again.
We published Families from the Beginning in September 2014 and did a weekend conference based on the book in October. In the beginning of 2015 I had the opportunity to retire from my civil service job and work for Answers in Genesis in their department that oversaw the construction of the Ark Encounter attraction and designed and built all the exhibits inside the Ark. Our daughter was the seamstress that made or oversaw all the character costumes (proud daddy moment). It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help with the creation of something that was recognized around the world and reached over a million people in its first year.
Five years went by in a blur. The work schedule leading to the Ark’s opening was crazy for everyone involved, and did not let up for a few months after the opening. Before the dust settled we started renovations of the Creation Museum exhibits and repeated smaller cycles of craziness right up to the time Covid-19 restrictions shut down all Kentucky attractions in March of this year.
From April to June I completed several projects in our house because, well, I had the time. I also wrote a book that my brothers and I had discussed the previous fall. It’s a memoir of sorts, a collection of stories about life lessons we learned while growing up on the hog farm in northwest Indiana. Our family tells stories all the time, and some of the stories that we tell and laugh about whenever we gather simply had to be put down on paper. My mom loved the idea and because she was 95 and failing my goal was to finish it before she died. I was at about 80% when she passed, but that was fine because it allowed me to include her final story. I plan to have the book published before Christmas.
So now back to blogging. Jeff Goins, (Goinswriter.com) wrote an encouraging blog about writing everyday. It got me started on the book, then I signed up for his Write a Bestseller workshop which laid out the process for book writing, but also reminded me that God has given me things to say and that I need to say them. That requires regular writing, so I’m restarting this blog.
Here’s my goal: at least once a week I will post a blog. Those of you that know me can probably guess what my themes will be: Biblical Authority, Family, Parenting, Marriage, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I pray this blog will challenge you to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and that it turns the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers.
